SUP is the latest hybrid river sport and it is taking over the waterways of the Colorado River! State Bridge has partnered with Gore Range Expeditions and is proud to offer SUP lesson/tours this summer by experienced river guides who have been pioneering and pushing this sport forward since it crept into the river community. Stand on a stable, inflatable surfboard, and challenge yourself down the river.
Gore Range Expeditions is one of the first Licensed River Outfitters offering SUP Trips commercially in the state of Colorado. The Upper Colorado has 3 ideal sections that can be split accordingly to level of comfort and athleticism. Because of the unique nature of the trip and the special attention taken because of instruction and safety precautions there is a 2 person minimum if this is the only activity you will participate in. If your family or friends are participating on a river trip and there are others paddling you are welcome to join at the standard rate.
SUP is taking the world surf community by storm and has entered into the realm of the river as well. For this activity you should be in adequate physical condition and be a comfortable swimmer. We have 2hr trips that run our standard instruction/tour that leaves our State Bridge headquarters 4 times a day (9am, 11:30am, 2pm, 4:30pm). These tours begin with a safety talk, equipment familiarization and instruction before following a guide down the river into the rapids. Class 2 rapids that may seem like nothing in a raft or kayak are a whole other deal when you are standing on a surfboard and navigating through them. It is common to spend time swimming in the river. Because of this, your trip includes its own specific instruction, wetsuit, helmet, PFD, guide and safety team. Our 2hr tours finish at State Bridge Lodge and Amphitheater where you are encouraged to enjoy a game of beach volleyball, grab a bite to eat, enjoy a happy hour and catch a show!
